The First Partnership

Established in 1935 in response to the Dust Bowl, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) works to help landowners, as well as Federal, State, tribal, local governments, and community groups, conserve natural resources on private lands. Understanding that the landscape as a whole must be the focus of conservation, NRCS has six mission goals that include high quality, productive soils; clean and abundant water; healthy plant and animal communities; clean air; an adequate energy supply; and working farms and ranchlands. Known as the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) until 1994, NRCS provides conservation assistance through both local offices and a nationwide network of Conservation Districts.  Locally, it’s the NRCS Pueblo Field Office that collaborates with the Turkey Creek CD.
